The Golden Dawn craft psychedelic melodies that blend gentle
harmonics and scorching grunge into a potent cocktail of rock
and roll. Immediate comparisons could include Mudhoney and
the Pixies, but the Brian Wilson style vocal arrangements and
Stooge-like stomp betray all retro-accusations. This band
breathes new life into a dying medium with songs that don't
just aim for your heart. They want to blow you away… and then
make you come back again… and again.
Named for Aleister Crowley's esteemed occult brotherhood, The
Golden Dawn have arrived on the national rock scene, steeped
in incense, sangria and ether-dipped flannel. The lineup
features main songwriter Danny Matthews (late of Liquid Dream
and Sunshine Flipside) on guitar/lead vocals, Johnny Larkin
(The Strange) handling lead guitar, Doug Z
(also of Ocean Grave) on bass and head Vanity Robert Blake
beating the ever-living hell out of the drum kit.
Pioneering a new breed of psychoactive grunge pop, the group
has released an amped-up eponymous EP that perfectly captures
the precision sound of their innately skilled live
performances. From their debut show at NYC's legendary punk
club CBGB's through attention-grabbing gigs at The Brighton
Bar, Piano's, The Continental, Lower East Side Festival of
the Arts at the Theater for the New City, CB's Gallery and
CB's lounge, the Golden Dawn manage to take it to the limits
of rock insanity.
Showcasing solid song-craft, soaring harmonies, and unique
melodies, these four talented Jersey shore recording artists
win over every crowd they've entertained. Whether blazing
through stomping grunge rave-ups, hazing through rich
psychedelic waters, or wistfully guiding listeners through
the odd heart-wrenching ballad, The Golden Dawn are ready to
break on through! Look for them in the January, 2006
theatrical release Nothing But the Truth, featuring Ryan
Pinkston (Spy Kids, Bad Santa), Carmen Electra and Craig
Kilborn.
